Meditation in Schools and Institutes
The IFSU Foundation along with Ramón Leonato, president of the Spanish Meditation Society, and Monica Reyes, who holds a teaching degree in special education and meditation; and is coordinator of the Mindfulness Schools program, have developed a project aimed at introducing meditation and mindfulness techniques in the classroom as well as behavioral cognitive practices, to k-12 schools and institutes. This method provides students and those who mentor them, effective tools for a student’s holistic development.
MINDFULNESS FOR THE LITTLE ONES
As of 2013, when meditation techniques were first introduced in the classroom at the Principe de Asturias Public School in Gijón, our foundation has been developing various programs aimed at bringing mindfulness and meditation techniques as well as emotional education into the school system.
Since then we have directed various intervention programs in Public Institutes and Schools in Spain.
Mission
This project aims to provide the best tools to develop the student’s essential competences: concentration, resilience, introspection, visualization capacity, relaxation capacity, emotional intelligence and the development of these various emotional and cognitive abilities.
At Mindfulness Schools we believe it is essential to develop emotional intelligence from the first years of life, it will help the child better understand his or her self and others, thereby promoting success in school and in life.
Vision
Introduce meditation techniques and mindfulness practices into the educational system, in order to facilitate the holistic development of the child who will tomorrow be the adult of the coming society.
Work transversely, using different tools depending on the age of the students and favoring the cognition and management of emotions, as well as the internalization of the mechanisms that regulate social relations.
Objective
Develop a training plan, in which teachers, families and students will participate, based on meditation and mindfulness techniques, and emotional management.
Expand the experience of success achieved to date in the centers where this program has been implemented to the largest number of educational centers, and support those centers to maintain the program independently.
